The Otherside Alliance is the adventurous tale of Sarlon a carefree young knight who is sent on an impossible task by his King to obtain an alliance with the powerful and mysterious Duke Frost of Ashbury. Sarlon comes up with a brilliant plan to achieve the Duke's support so long as one one sees through the ruse. He teams up with a spotted dwarf name Mumblepeg to outfox the Duke's commissioner. The Otherside Alliance is part of the A Bard's Eye View anthology edited by Michael Ventrella from Double Dragon scheduled for publication in June, 2011.
New York Times bestseller Jonathan Maberry called the new book ".. a wild and weird collection of fantasy stories that present some of the freshest writing around. Derring-do with a great sense of fun. Highly recommended."
Here's a short excerpt:
“You are not seriously considering asking me to undertake such a task in Ashbury,” Sarlon said. “I am the last person you should pick.” He raised his hand as if taking an oath. “I officially refuse any such offer. I am young, inexperienced and irresponsible. Also, I value my life too much.”
“I have made my choice.” The king came around the desk and stood in front of Sarlon. He laid a hand on his shoulder.
“What if I refuse?” Sarlon said.
“One nice thing about being king is that people can’t refuse, and still live.” Bellabond sliced a finger across his own throat. The king roared with laughter, his head back and his mouth open. “Besides, you get something that has been denied you all your life.” The king paused for dramatic effect. “A title, recognizing you as a legitimate member of Otherside royalty. “How about being a Count? No. Count Sarlon sounds like an activity rather than a title. I will appoint you as Duke of Umpelen, and give you all the holdings that go with that title.”
